Treatments To Improve The Condition of Your Skin - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield Chesterfield

We are all different and we will all age in different ways. Some of us, if we are lucky, will grow old having firm, clear skin with a minimal of wrinkles, however, many of us won't. Over the years, we have many concerns about our skin's condition, and stress, worry, sun damage and even genetics, all play their part in how we'll look when we grow old.

We all know that as we get older everything can start to go steadily downhill and our skin will start to show its age, with fine lines and wrinkles beginning to appear. The skin becomes dull and our skin might lose elasticity, as our bodies no longer makes collagen at the same levels it used to. Luckily, these days we can actually do a lot to repair the outer damage, and give us back our healthy looking complexion.

Before and after Smartxide Co2 fractional laser treatment

The skin’s outer layers begin to show wear and tear from:
  • Ageing, in the form of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Acne scars
  • Liver and sun spots
  • Sun damage
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Age spots & freckles
  • Spider veins
  • Redness; rosacea
  • Texture problems
We all have to deal with the changes that come with ageing. The truth is that whether we like it or not, as time goes by, our skin will look different. We would all like to have smooth, clear and even skin and thankfully there are different treatments that we can use to treat the skin to maintain its natural beauty, whether it's dull or damaged skin, wrinkles, freckles or pigmentation, we can help to restore a more youthful, clear complexion.

Before and after Smartxide Co2 fractional laser treatment
At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we have a number of treatments to repair the damaged outer layers of the skin:
Laser skin resurfacing using our Smartxide Co2 fractional laser
Chemical Peels
Microdermabrasion
Micro-needling, also known as dermaroller
Radio frequency skin tightening

Skin resurfacing treatments work by removing the damaged outer layers, and revealing healthier, smoother skin in its place. Lots of the treatments can easily be used on the hands and body, as well as on the face, and these non-surgical treatments usually involve little, or no downtime.

Skin treatments benefits include:
Revitalising the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin formation
They are an ideal treatment for open pores, and will help to tighten and freshen the skin
Giving immediate results, even after one treatment
The treatments allow deeper exfoliation of blemished skin
A fresher looking appearance after a number of treatments
Minimal downtime, allowing a return to normal activities immediately

A Non-Surgical Nose Job For a Perfect Facial Profile - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

A non-surgical nose job using dermal fillers, is a great alternative that's available to those interested in improving or just enhancing the shape of their noses, without going through the pain, the cost and the recovery time, that's associated with a surgical nose job. However, a nose job using fillers can't make the nose smaller or correct deformities, but it can enhance the nose balance and correct asymmetry, as well as bridge augmentation and straightening your profile.

The non-surgical nose job is also known as the liquid nose job and is an ideal option for those who are unhappy with their nose shape but don't want invasive surgery. Using dermal filler treatment means there's minimal downtime, the results are instant and there's no need for a general anaesthetic.

You'll be a good candidate for nose reshaping if you want to :
  • Straighten and soften a bump on the bridge of the nose
  • Correct a nose that requires more height and definition.
  • Define a nose following a surgical rhinoplasty
  • Amend a slightly crooked nose
  • Correct a hooked shape or a mild drooping of the nasal tip

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic the non-surgical nose job treatment begins with numbing cream getting applied to the outside of the nose. A fine needle injects Radiesse dermal filler into precise locations on the nose. The Radiesse filler does not migrate or lump together in the tissues and when it does break down, 8 to 10 months later, it does so symmetrically and evenly. The filler injections will take anywhere between 20-30 minutes to complete. The procedure results aren't permanent and will need future top-up treatments.

With dermal filler treatment the results are instant. After the procedure, the treated area may seem slightly red or swollen, but you can resume normal activities, and return to work immediately after the procedure. The results usually last 8 to 10 months, although the exact time will depend on the structure of your skin, lifestyle and age. Additional treatments can easily be performed any time after the first treatment.

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic, Dr Bassi, who is a skilled, experience doctor, performs the non-surgical rhinoplasty. It's an ideal treatment that's quick, with no cuts or scars, has minimal downtime and will transform your appearance.

Enhance Your Lips With Dermal Filler - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield.

If you feel conscious that your lips have become thinner or that they disappear when you smile, then a lip augmentation might be the answer. It's a great treatment for those with thin lips or those who think having full lips will help to balance their face. Dermal filler injected into the lips will help them to look fuller by increasing the volume, which will make them look bigger and plumper.

Lip augmentation will :
  • Increase lip volume
  • Achieve a symmetrical look
  • Enhance lip contours
  • Improve the lip outline and definition
  • Reduce lines and wrinkles from around the mouth
Lip augmentation is one of the most popular treatments at Selston Cosmetic Clinic. It works to smooth out the fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth area and to shape and add volume to the lips, all helping to create the perfect overall look to enhance your facial features.

Wrinkles
Lips can become crepey and covered in fine lines. A lip filler injection to the upper and lower lips will boost hydration levels. This will hydrate the lips as well as smoothing the wrinkles.

Mouth and lip lines
Women have a problem with vertical lines around the mouth which cause lipstick bleeds and these are usually caused by genetics, smoking or sun exposure. With dermal filler we can soften these lines, leaving the area around the mouth enhanced, giving it a more youthful look.

Undefined lips
Lip filler added to the vermilion border, will give an outline, improve definition and minimize lip bleed.
Thin lips
Some of us are born with naturally thin lips or they lose volume as we age. A non-permanent filler made from hyaluronic acid can boost the lip area. Hyaluronic acid is a natural ingredient which gets broken down by the body over time, and can also be dissolved if you don't like the results.

Shape
The older we get, the more chance that the edge of the lips will become less defined. Over time, the collagen and elastin breaks down and the lips lose their pouting shape, and lines begin to develop around the lips.

It’s a fast procedure with almost no downtime. Any side effects such as swelling, bruising or redness are temporary and resolve within a few days and any lumpiness can easily be gently massaged out and will settle within a couple of days. After lip filler treatment, keep your lips moisturised and use a moisturising sun block.

At Selston, Dr Bassi has over 10 years experience as a specialist cosmetic practitioner and has performed thousands of injectable treatments with outstanding results which are specific to you.

Botox Means You Won't Suffer With Excessive Sweating - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Summer has arrived and while the warm sunny weather might be great for some of us, there are others who dread it. Excessive sweating can bring misery to those who suffer from it. For one thing it can cause embarrassment and affect your self-confidence, and then worrying about it causes anxiety, which in turn can make the sweating worse.

A few factors about why you sweat;

Male and Female
Men sweat the most, especially during rigorous exercising and even though women have more sweat glands than men, they produce less sweat from each gland.
Body Mass
Because men are usually heavier and have more muscle mass, they tend to produce more heat than women do while exercising. So it seems that the higher a person's body mass index (BMI), the more they sweat.
Alcohol
Alcohol will increase your heart rate and dilate the blood vessels, making your skin look flushed. Too much alcohol consumption will raise your body temperature, causing you to sweat more.
Spicy Foods
Your body temperature will go up when you eat spicy foods, causing your body to produce sweat to help cool itself down.
Hot Weather
On hot sunny days your body temperature will rise, increasing the heart rate and the blood flow, trying to cool itself down. However, in humid weather, when there's more moisture in the air, it's harder for the sweat on your skin to evaporate, slowing down the cooling process.
Constant sweating
People who experience excessive sweating are suffering from a condition known as hyperhidrosis, and this condition causes them to perspire more than is necessary to regulate their body temperature.

Those of us who sweat a lot, know that it can cause inconvenience, be uncomfortable, and even be embarrassing in some situations, as some of us will find out as we begin a glorious sunny summer.
But there are things that you can do to keep your sweating to a minimum;
  • Clinical strength antiperspirants - Try to use antiperspirants labelled as clinical strength, which usually has aluminium chloride as its active ingredient. And don't forget - antiperspirants keep you from sweating, whilst deodorants just make you smell nice when you sweat.
  • Botox injections - We can inject botox into the skin, to the areas of the body affected by hyperhidrosis. Botox helps to reduce sweating in these areas by blocking the signals from the brain to the sweat glands.
  • Diet - Calcium can slow down the sweating so eating calcium rich foods like low-fat yogurt, cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, almonds, baked beans, kale and collard greens will help to regulate temperature and reduce perspiration.
Botox hyperhidrosis treatment is an excellent alternative with outstanding results to stop excessive sweating. At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we provide the latest, safe, effective cosmetic medical treatments for excessive sweating. So, if you want a cool, dry summer, call us at Selston Cosmetic Clinic for more information.

Dermal Filler Restores Volume in Ageing Hands - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

As we get older, it's our hands that are one of the first areas that tend to show signs of ageing more than other parts of the body. Dry skin, wrinkles and sunspots on the hands are a dead giveaway about our age.

We use our hands all day, every day, whether it's housework, gardening or daily exposure to the weather. The sun, wind and rain, over the years, can cause our hands to become scaly, sun-damaged, wrinkled and veiny, and this all makes them look older than they are.

The hands, face and neck are the most visible areas of the body that are unclothed. People tend to concentrate their beauty regime on their face, using the best moisturisers, anti-ageing serums, sun-creams and make-up to help keep it looking as youthful as possible for as long as possible. The hands however, tend to be overlooked.

Over time the hands lose volume, fat and elasticity and become translucent and wrinkly and this results in the veins, tendons and bony structures becoming more apparent.

Before and after
There are many signs of ageing on the hands:
  • Age / Sun spots - We get pigmentation spots on the hands after years of exposure to the sun and without prevention they will multiply, so when you're applying sun cream, don't forget to rub it into your hands.
  • Prominent veins - Loss of volume that occurs with ageing will leave the hands thinner and bony, and this will make the veins more prominent.
  • Dry skin -  As with the face, a dry, dull complexion will make your hands look older than they are, so putting on an emollient-rich hand cream will help to improve the skin. Always use a hand moisturiser on the hands as dry skin can make the skin look wrinkly.
  • Crepey skin - As we get older, the body produces less collagen. When the hands lose collagen, the skin on the hands gets thinner and starts to look dry and crumpled. UV light also results in collagen damage.
Exposure to the sun can quickly age your hands, but the bigger problem is volume loss. Dermal fillers will restore lost volume and plump up bony hands, making prominent veins look less obvious. A topical anesthetic gets applied before treatment and most dermal fillers contain anesthetic which makes the procedure much less painful and then dermal fillers are delicately inserted through small cannulas. The quality and texture of your skin improves with dermal filler treatment and decreases wrinkles and prominent veins.

Laser Treatment for Ladies Unwanted Facial Hair - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Beards might look great on the blokes, but not so much on the ladies. For women, one of the most embarrassing beauty issues is female facial hair, whether it's dark, coarse hairs or a sprinkling of pale peach fuzz.

Some facial hair on the upper lip, cheeks, hairline and chin is normal on women, although it can sometimes be quite hard to see as the hair is usually light and fair. It's when the facial hair develops thicker and coarser, that makes a woman want to seek hair removal treatment.

It's the male hormone testosterone that causes men to grow facial hair, but it's also quite normal for women to have low levels of testosterone in their body. Sometimes however, the hormones become unbalanced and this causes the testosterone levels to increase, and one result of this is thicker, coarser facial hair.

Facial hair in women is a result of :
Hormone imbalance.
Genetic and ethnic predisposition.
Underlying medical condition.
Being overweight.
Perimenopause and menopause

Most women wage a frequent battle against unwanted hair. Whether it's the hair on our legs, bikini lines, eyebrows, chins or the upper lip, over time we've tried all the hair removal tools at our disposal;
  • Waxing
  • Plucking
  • Shaving
  • Threading
  • Bleaching
These methods are time-consuming, irritating and painful, and the hair comes back quickly and often thicker than before. But there is an alternative. Laser hair removal treatment offers a permanent solution to unwanted hair, which will save you both time and money in the long run.

Minimal discomfort might be experienced during laser treatment, just a minor stinging sensation on the skin when the we apply the laser pulses. Topical anaesthetic cream can easily be applied to the skin before the procedure, making treatments more comfortable.

Laser hair removal is a gentle and effective way to permanently remove unwanted hair from almost any area of the body. During the treatment, light gets absorbed by the melanin, the pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy effectively destroys the hair follicle by heating the pigment, without damaging any of the surrounding cells, and then a short pulse of light simultaneously targets and destroys many of the hair follicles.

Laser hair removal not only creates smooth, natural looking skin, it's also the safest and most effective way to create permanent hair reduction, and has become the number one solution to removing unwanted hair. Laser hair removal can give long-lasting results and the treatment is a better alternative, as we can treat small and large areas quickly and effectively, compared to other methods.

Dermal Filler Injections for Eye Bags, Sunken Eyes & Tear Troughs - Nottingham, Derby, Chesterfield & Mansfield

There's nothing worse than spending ages doing your make-up, then looking in the mirror and all you notice is your tired looking eyes. Anyone can suffer from hollows under the eyes, although they inevitably worsen, the older you get. Having sunken eye hollows can cause you to feel disheartened when you notice the lost volume under the eyes. The volume loss can start in your early twenties and they tend to become more obvious with age.

The tear trough extends from the inner corner of the eye, making an arc shape, and continuing on to the outer corner, like a crescent-shaped area under your eye. The delicate skin under your eyes can sometimes seem dark, sunken and hollow and this is usually a result of either ageing, dehydration, or not getting enough sleep.

Why do we get dark circles and hollows under our eyes;
  • Ageing.
  • The most common reason is heredity.
  • Volume loss caused by the loss of orbital fat under the lower eyelids .
  • Collagen loss in the skin from age and sun damage.
  • Dehydration causes a temporary loss of volume in the under-eye area.

A pronounced dip under the eye, creates shadows and can leave you looking tired and older than your years. Injecting dermal filler into the eye hollow can smooth the area, lessen the look of the dark circles and rejuvenate the area. Tear trough treatment places the dermal filler below the skin, which lifts up the tissues and makes the tear trough seem more shallow.

There are many terms used for sunken eyes:
  • Hollow eyes
  • Dark shadows
  • Thin-looking skin beneath the eyes
  • Dark circles beneath the eyes
  • A tired face
  • Tear trough hollows
  • Under-eye hollows
The tear trough treatment is almost painless and it needs only a small amount of local anaesthetic numbing cream applied to the skin about 20 minutes before the injection treatment starts. At Selston Cosmetic Clinic, Dr Bassi uses a cannula for tear trough injections, as this technique minimises bruising and is a gentler technique. The recovery time is very quick, although patients may experience some redness and swelling, but this can easily be minimised with cover up make up.

Ways to improve sunken eyes;
  • Have 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
  • To relieve tiredness, apply slices of cucumber on the eyes to cool the skin and improve the blood circulation.
  • Warm or cool tea bags placed on the eyes can improve blood circulation.
  • To flush out excess water and reduce the dark, puffy appearance under the eyes, eat foods such as watermelon, celery and cucumber.
  • A diet of dark green vegetables, like; spinach, broccoli, kale and sprouts will help with deep sunken eyes.
Many people are unhappy with the depressions and shadows beneath the eyes, and dermal filler treatments to this area are a safe and effective alternative to surgery.

Regain Your Flat Tummy With Vaser Lipo - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Lots of people think that beauty is all about what we see in the mirror, but really, beauty should also relate to our health and happiness. The fact is, that when you feel good about yourself, your self-confidence gets a boost, and having a positive self-image of ourselves, contributes to our overall well-being.

Vaser lipo is a suitable treatment for men and women. There might be many reasons for wanting this procedure; whether it's because of areas of stubborn fat that we just can't lose, even when we diet and exercise, or maybe post pregnancy baby belly. Removing fat from certain locations on the female body with vaser, will reveal the soft curves that usually define the female form, or maybe you want a more drastic fat removal, to re-shape and contour your body.

For a woman, although pregnancy and childbirth is an amazing thing, it's a major ordeal for the body to go through, and may leave the woman's body with excess fat, stretched and saggy skin. With vaser lipo, we can easily treat your mummy tummy and it's also ideal for small and large areas. It will also bring about skin tightening to really improve areas such as the arms, double chins and the knees, areas that are normally quite difficult to treat.

Reasons for considering Vaser Lipo on the tummy:
  • To take away stubborn excess post pregnancy fat.
  • Reducing fatty bulges and sculpting a beautiful natural contour to the body.
  • To give the body a more balanced and proportionate look.
  • You will gain increased body confidence and improve your self-image.
Vaser lipo is gentle and a lot more precise than traditional liposuction, and it's a good way of removing fat from localised areas that seem resistant to diet and exercise. Vaser lipo involves inserting a thin probe, that emits ultrasound waves, these loosen the fat cells and are then removed using a suction cannula. There are many benefits with this procedure; minimal pain, bruising and swelling and immediate results.

Vaser lipo on the tummy area is a walk in, walk out treatment, and it's designed to flatten, tighten and contour the tummy. Vaser results are immediate and once the swelling and bruising has subsided, you'll get a clear indication of your new contours.

The vaser procedure doesn't involve knives or surgery, making it one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures available and ideal for those who are looking for safer, less painful alternatives to traditional liposuction. After your procedure, there'll be a gradual and continual improvement, and by six months you'll be able to see your final shape.

Beautiful Enhanced & Defined Lips At Selston - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

As we get older, our lips can get thinner and lose their definition and even a small amount of dermal filler can make all the difference. The lip clinic at Selston Cosmetic Clinic specialises in lip enhancement and lip augmentation, which is great in this age of selfies, when many of us want to perfect our pout.

Over the last few years, fuller lips have become very popular and the size and shape of the lips can easily be enhanced with dermal filler treatment, giving more volume and a fuller look to the lips. Lots of people worry that they might leave the clinic with over inflated lips, sometimes called a trout pout, but be assured this would never happen at Selston Cosmetic Clinic. Dr Bassi has performed many lip fillers and his treatment ethos is to produce elegant looking luscious lips, which should only get you compliments.

Our Client wanted to be rid of her lip creases gone, as well as tweaks to her lip outline and definition.

Lip enhancement generally involves giving your lips the outline and definition that time has destroyed and it will also minimize lip bleed. We can define the cupid bow which will give female lips a balance. The philtrum ridges, when defined by insertion of dermal filler, will further enhance the features of the lips.

Lip augmentation involves making the body of the lips fuller. The upper and lower lip can have filler injected into them, giving more volume and substance to the lip.

Lip treatments are always a popular procedure at the clinic. It takes about 15 minutes and the result is instant. Normally one syringe is more than enough to make a big difference and results will last around 6 months. Whether the aim is to restore lost volume from the ageing process or to augment the lips for cosmetic reasons, Dr Bassi will use his skill and experience to advise what will best suit your face. At Selston Cosmetic Clinic lip filler is £175 for 1ml hyaluronic acid filler and £300 for 2ml.

This client wanted greater volume with a natural look and an improved outline.

The great thing about lip fillers is how the results are almost immediate. After the injections, you may get some swelling, but once it wears down, you'll see the effects without having to wait weeks to see your new lips. Lip filler treatments last a considerable amount of time and get excellent results, but they aren't a permanent solution and will need to be repeated.

Dr Bassi specialises in exquisite, natural looking lips and because no-ones lips are identical, he tailors his facial and lip filler treatments to each individual patient, to help them look and feel their best.
