Plump up your Smile Using Dermal Fillers for Lip Enhancements - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Your smile can lighten up your face and every time you speak your lips attract attention, so it's important that you love the way they look. Full and defined lips are synonymous with youthfulness, but as time goes by, the lips are an area that can give tell-tale signs of the fact that time is marching on!

Lip Enhancement and augmentations are an effective way to re-define the contours of the lips, providing balance and volume. Whether your lips have lost volume and become thinner as you've aged or whether you've always coveted full, sensuous lips, then a lip augmentation procedure can contour your lips,  helping you look younger and feel more attractive. The procedure also reduces the thin, fine wrinkles in and around the lips that make smiles look old.

Lips should be proportional and the guideline for the ideal lips suggests that the upper lip should be about 40% of the total height of the lips, and the bottom lip should be about 60%.

The time to consider lip enhancement should be when:
  • You've always had thin lips and they tend to disappear when you smile.
  • With age, your lips have become thinner and have lost some volume.
  • You feel self-conscious about the look of your lips.
  • You want to restore youthful contours and redefine the borders of your lips.
  • Having fuller lips will help to balance out your face.
As we get older, our lips lose their plumpness and start to look thinner. Sometimes, having a small procedure can make all the difference. Just having your lips augmented slightly can make you appear years younger, without it being obvious that you have had anything done. People choose to have their lips enhanced for all sorts of different reasons. Sometimes the lips that we were born with are not as full as we would like, or maybe they have lost their fullness thanks to the passage of time.
As we age we lose natural substances such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, which give the mouth area and lips structure and volume.

Loss of these leads to:
  • Loss of definition of the lip's border.
  • Loss of volume and flattening of the lip.
  • Loss of hydration of the lip tissue.
  • Development of lipstick and smoker's lines.
  • Droopy mouth corners.

At the Selston Cosmetic Clinic we can give you back the outline and definition that your lips have lost over time. You can get back youthful lips by having specialised lip fillers, which are hyaluronic acid based. This substance is naturally found in the body.

The benefits of using hyaluronic acid fillers include:
  • The amount of filler injected can be controlled, so there is better control over how much lip volume is created.
  • The injections can be given gradually during different appointments until the desired lip volume results are achieved.
  • Any lumps and bumps can be dissolved easily.
  • There may be less bruising and swelling compared to other dermal fillers.
  • The results are reasonably long-lasting, but not permanent.
  • Because hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, it's unlikely to cause an allergic reaction.
Call us for a free consultation. Dr Bassi is a fully trained, very experienced, specialist cosmetic doctor, with over 10 years experience as a specialist cosmetic practitioner, and he tailors his treatment to each patient and his ultimate aim is that all his clients look and feel their very best.

Trim & Contour your Body with Vaser Lipo - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

As we get older, our bodies go through lots of changes, and some of these changes aren't very welcome. None of us are perfect, and all of us have parts of our body that we aren't happy with, and one of the most common complaints is excess fat. One of the fat removal techniques that is popular in the UK and abroad is vaser lipo.

Vaser Lipo on outer thighs

Vaser lipo is a straightforward procedure and it doesn't take long to complete. It's an advanced body contouring treatment that uses gentle ultrasonic energy to selectively target unwanted fat, while at the same time preserving other important tissue structures such as blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue. Tiny incisions are made in the treatment area, and the probe is inserted and ultrasound energy directed into the fat cells. The ultrasound energy breaks down the fat cells and then a suction device is used to gently remove the emulsified fat cells.

Vaser is suitable for both women and men, and is a fast, safe and effective way to get rid of fat in those stubborn areas that don't respond to dieting and exercise. People can train and exercise forever and a day, but sometimes those problem areas will just not shift. Vaser lipo targets our problem areas, safely removing excess body fat in the specific areas, making it an ideal way to sculpt, reshape and define the body.

There are numerous benefits with this procedure, there’s minimal pain, bruising and swelling and you get to experience the results immediately. Once the treatment is over, you'll be left feeling proud of your trim and toned up body, allowing you up to wear all sorts of clothes you wouldn’t dream of putting on at the moment.

Post op care is really important as it will make sure that the results you get with the vaser lipo procedure, continue to stay with you in time to come. It's very important to make sure everything is kept smooth with ultrasound and massages. After treatment, Dr Bassi will give you a bespoke aftercare package, specifically tailored for you and your particular procedure. Aftercare should be religiously carried out because any shortcuts can be detrimental to your result.

If you think vaser lipo could be for you, come along to the Selston Cosmetic Clinic and have a free consultation with Dr Bassi. He will give you all the information you need to make that important decision! There’s still time to get your body in shape for summer so that you can bare your skin with confidence.

PDO Thread Lift Treatment for a Younger Looking Face - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

We all want to stave off the ageing process. When we are young, the skin on our face is nice and tight, with the cheek and chin meeting in a smooth contour and definition at the jaw-line. But when we start to age, collagen is lost, making the skin less elastic, and gravity will start to pull the loose skin downwards, creating jowls in the lower face and causing the skin around the cheeks to become thinner, making us look older.

Ageing causes the skin tissue to become thinner because the fibres in the collagen and elastin break down, which results in sagging skin, deep creases, folds and wrinkles. If you look in the mirror and wish for a sharp defined jaw-line, but you aren't ready for a surgical facelift, then a PDO thread lift is the solution. A PDO thread lift is a non-surgical alternative to a facelift and is often called the lunch hour lift, because it can be performed within 60 minutes or less. The procedure actually changes the shape of your face, restoring a youthful look in the same way as a surgical facelift.

The thread lift improves and rejuvenates the structure of the face. They are great for loose or sagging skin, and PDO threads need no cuts or incisions, they are simply inserted into the skin with a very fine needle to lift tissue and muscle and improve skin texture. Depending on the area being treated, the threads are inserted either just under the skin, or into the fatty layer just beneath the skin.

The PDO threads have a dual effect, first to give an immediate lift, secondly to stimulate the body's own collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid and they are absorbable so they don't need to be removed from the body. The thread is the same as what's used in open heart surgery and will dissolve at around 6 months. By this time the collagen will have been rebuilt and the effects will last up to two years. Results are visible straight away but continue to improve as collagen is promoted.

At Selston Cosmetic Clinic we regularly perform PDO thread lifts with great results. The threads can be used all over the face and will combine beautifully with Dermal Filler to give a rejuvenated new you! Just recently this lovely woman had a thread lift at our clinic (see photo below)

Before treatment     -   and then 5 days later

An instant lift is often noticeable but what's even better, is that the effects will continue to improve for days and weeks afterwards.

The procedure is suitable for most people from age 25 onwards, when the effects of ageing starts to become apparent. PDO thread lifts reverse the effects of ageing and vastly improve quality of the skin. Sagging jowls, eye bags, drooping upper eyebrows and the jaw-line are all area's suitable for this procedure.

Thread lifts are extremely versatile and the procedure is very simple, safe and almost painless. It's a minimally invasive non-surgical procedure lift that gives a natural, rejuvenated look.

Vaser Lipo Treatment for a Summer Body - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Both women and men have vaser lipo treatments every year to achieve a variety of goals. For some, it's so their clothes fit more comfortably, or maybe to look good in a swimsuit on holiday. For men, the most common vaser treatments are for six-packs, abs or gynecomastia procedures.

Men's moobs before and after vaser lipo

A strict diet and exercise regime doesn’t always get rid of those stubborn fatty areas that we hate, which is why vaser lipo is best suited to people who have already lost most of the weight but are unable to shift the remaining stubborn pockets of fat. Vaser lipo is an excellent way to shape, tone and contour specific body areas, helping to re-balance the body shape and bring it back into proportion.

The old adage is that after a certain age, women have to choose between either their face or their bottom. If you diet and exercise with great determination, the chances are you will lose the weight and get yourself a pert bottom, but the weight will also come off the face, leaving it looking gaunt and old. But this doesn't have to be the case if you go for vaser lipo. You can lose the love handles, the bingo wings and get a smaller bottom without excess dieting or exercise, and without getting a haggard face.

We are all different shapes and sizes and we all have those certain body issues that drive us mad. Whether it's the saddlebags making you look wider, big thighs in your jeans or bingo wings flapping when you're wearing your strappy tops. Dieting is hard at the best of times, but when you just can't lose those last few pounds, or that dress just doesn't sit smoothly enough on the hips then you'll find that a vaser lipo treatment can really change your body, almost instantly.

For women, fat often accumulates around the buttocks, hips, thighs, knees and lower abdomen, with men, they tend to store excess fat around their flanks, abdomen and breasts.  All of these areas can be treated with vaser lipo and the procedure is particularly effective for younger clients, because they have greater elasticity in the skin.

Cosmetic surgery is growing in popularity, and it's not hard to see why, when you consider the advantages. The right procedures can be used to great effect and vastly improve your self-esteem, whether with a new stunning silhouette, losing a dress size or no longer having to breathe in to pull in that wobbly tummy!  The Selston Cosmetic Clinic can help you chose the best procedure for you when you book a free consultation.

Laser Hair Removal for Men's Body Hair - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Body hair removal was in days gone by, a strictly a female thing. These days, more and more men are opting for the same grooming rituals as women and although most men don't necessarily want all of their body hair removed, they do want it thinned out, mainly on their back and chest. Hairy backs, chests, legs and bellies are a turn-off for a lot of women and so more than ever, men are succumbing to the pressure to remove body hair.

These are some of the most popular hair removal treatments for men:

Waxing
The main advantage of waxing away unwanted hair is that the results do last for a while. Heated wax is spread over the required area with a spatula, then a strip removes the wax, along with the hair. The hair is removed at the root which means you’ll be hair-free for up to six weeks, and because it's removed at the root, it will grow back with fine, rather than blunt hair.

Electrolysis
Although electrolysis can permanently remove hair, it's a slow and painful hair removal treatment, which can sometimes result in scarring. A small electric current is applied with a fine needle-shaped electrode, or metal probe into each hair follicle and this destroys the root. Minor discomfort might be experienced and more than one treatment is required for it to be most effective. With electrolysis, each hair follicle is treated individually, making it a time-consuming and painful process.

Shaving
Shaving is probably the easiest method of hair removal. With just a razor and shaving cream you can get rid of hair from any part of the body, and it's easy and painless as long as you don’t nick yourself with the razor. But as the hair grows back, unfortunately this makes shaving with a razor only a temporary solution.

Depilatories/Cream Hair Removers
Depilatory creams contain chemicals that react safely with the unwanted hair on the body. They break down the proteins in the hair, causing it to weaken and dissolve. The hair is left in a jelly like state, and is wiped away with the cream.

Laser
The laser beam passes through the skin to the hair follicles. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, without harming the surrounding skin, and stops future hair growth. With male hair removal becoming increasingly popular, laser hair removal is an ideal treatment for those wanting a smooth chest or hair-free back and almost anywhere on the body can be treated, including ears, sideburns or nipples.

Selston Cosmetic Clinic uses the most advanced Laser Technology to offer a safe and effective way to reduce unwanted body and facial hair. Long lasting results can now be obtained with Laser hair removal, and both small and large areas can be treated quickly and effectively, compared to other methods. After treatment, hair follicles might seem to grow for one to two weeks. Typically these are lifeless hairs and they will fall out quite easily.

Depending on the area, treatments can take from 10 minutes and up to 45 minutes for the back. Only 30% of  hair is usually in the growth phase at any one time and the laser can only target these hairs. Therefore a series of treatments are required to achieve long-term results, generally around 6 treatments are required spaced 4-6 weeks apart, and this usually results in 80% of hair removal. Some clients might experience a slight redness in the treated area, but his should resolve in a day or two and you are requested to avoid sun exposure and use daily sunscreen following any laser treatment.

Make Unwanted Lines & Wrinkles Disappear with Botox Treatment - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

Weather has a huge effect on our skin. When it’s too hot or dry outside our skin lets us know, and the sun isn’t the only weather factor that can cause damage to the skin, the cold can do that as well. The skin is the outer shell that we present to the world every day and we all want to keep it looking as nice and healthy as we possibly can. With each new season, there comes new skin concerns.

Spring
Legs and other body parts have probably been covered up throughout the cold winter months and ignored, but come springtime when the days start to become warmer it's time to think about shaving and waxing again! Make sure you prepare the skin before you start de-fuzzing so you don't get razor burn, rashes or irritations. In spring, however weak the sunshine, sun exposure can still cause sunburn this and increases the risk of premature skin ageing and skin cancer, so always apply sun cream.

Summer
We all hope for a nice hot summer but we must be aware of the problems this may bring. Over-exposure to the sun can lead to sunburn but it can also cause facial damage such as fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. If you don't wear sunglasses you will find yourself squinting in the sunshine, causing unwanted wrinkles around the eyes! Some skin conditions such as rosacea can also be worsened by sun exposure, however, some sunlight can be good for acne. To protect your skin you should always use a high factor sun cream.

Autumn
When the summer is over and the cold, wet weather arrives, it's not only unpleasant, it can also be harmful to the skin. The skin will often begin to feel tighter, drier, and duller in colder weather and when it rains the skin can become waterlogged, soften and rub painfully.

Winter
In winter, there are freezing temperatures outside and the central heating turned up inside, which can lead to chapped lips, sore red patches and flaky skin becoming a daily occurrence. The winter months bring harsh, cold winds that irritate the delicate skin on our face and hands and can cause your skin to be  stripped of natural oils. It's important to keep your skin hydrated, so make sure you exfoliate first, then apply a moisturiser, making sure you apply it in the morning and also at night. Skin conditions like eczema and rosacea can flare up in colder weather.

Squinting in the sunshine and scrunching up the face against the blustery wind and rain can cause the unwanted appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. At the Selston Cosmetic Clinic we can help you say goodbye to those wrinkles with the latest Botox and other face enhancement treatments. Botox corrects the fine lines, crows feet around the eyes, frown lines on the forehead and the horizontal lines that appear when you look up.

All our Botox treatments are performed by our cosmetic doctor, Dr Bassi, who is trained in basic and advanced Botox techniques. We specialise in giving a soft natural look to your face and each Botox treatment is customised specifically for you. Call for a free consultation.

Correct Nasolabial Folds or Laugh Lines with Dermal Fillers - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

The nasolabial folds are natural facial contours which are commonly known as smile lines or laugh lines. They can either be relatively fine, just a fine wrinkle or become a deep fold, to the point that the skin above seems to hang over it. They are the two folds of skin that run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth. A nasolabial fold is part of our normal anatomy and they can develop at any age and in fact, many of us grow up with a slight hint of laugh lines, but with time, the fold can seem deeper as our skin loses volume as we get older.  We lose the elasticity in the skin and facial muscles weaken as we age, making this area one of the first places to sag.

Facial expressions are a huge part of life, so the more mobile the expressions we use when we smile or laugh, the greater chance that deeper laugh lines will develop at a younger age. People often feel that laugh lines gives their face a fatigued or drawn appearance and when these lines become more pronounced, this is when they become a problem for some people.

There are several ways to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds from topical treatments, to more invasive courses of action.

Creams and Serums
Most of these creams contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid which improves the way the skin retains moisture, tretinoin, which slows the breakdown of collagen and exfoliants, which help remove dead skin cells. Using topical creams and serums may only be a short-term solution.

Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers offer the most effective non-surgical method for treating these lines. Non-permanent dermal fillers present a non-invasive and cost-effective means of treatment, with very little downtime.

Cosmetic Surgery
A face lift is an expensive but long-term solution for reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds, it is a decision that shouldn't be taken lightly. A face lift can reduce laugh lines, as the tightening of the skin makes the folds shallower and less noticeable.

Losing weight can exacerbate nasolabial folds, as visible lines around the mouth tend to show up more on thinner people. Dermal fillers are used to successfully put volume back into areas that have lost volume, most often as a result of ageing, and will significantly reduce or remove nasolabial folds which can make the face look older and tired.
At the Selston Cosmetic Clinic we have great success in treating nasolabial folds with dermal fillers.

We recommend any of the following dermal fillers:
  • Restylane range
  • Radiesse
  • Juvederm Ultra
The treatment take usually takes 30 - 45 minutes and a local anaesthetic injection is usually given to minimise any potential discomfort. Downtime is minimal and you can go back to work the next day. The results are immediate and last up to 12 months.

Correction or softening of these folds gives you a youthful fresher look and the results that can be achieved using dermal fillers are stunning and natural looking.

Dermal Filler for Lip Enhancement & Healthy Pink Lips - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

We all want luscious, soft, plump lips but unfortunately not all of us are lucky enough to have them! But, at Selston Cosmetic Clinic we can help you with a lip enhancement and once you have beautiful lips, we can help you to keep them in tip-top condition.

Imagine your lips are a sponge. When they are exposed to moisture, they absorb the water and plump up, but when they're dehydrated, they dry out and shrink. As lips are always exposed, they tend to get dehydrated, especially during the cold, windy winter months. It's a fact, that naturally rosy, pink lips are appealing to look at but there are many things that can cause the natural shade of your lips to go darker. Things like sun exposure, UV rays, allergies, smoking, caffeine and hormonal imbalances can result in dull looking lips. However, there are many ways to lighten dark lips.

A few tips to help keep your lips looking natural with a healthy pink blush:
  • Dark lipsticks may take away the pinkish hue from your lips, eventually leading to pigmented lips, so try wearing soft or nude colours.
  • Stop smoking, as nicotine causes darkening and discolouration of the lips, so if you want pink and healthy lips it's best to quit smoking. Plus it will help to prevent getting smokers lines around the lips.
  • Cut down on your coffee and tea intake, as components of caffeine can darken the lips.
  • Avoid sun exposure as the sun is known to increase the synthesis of melanin in the body. It's ideal to protect the lips from the harmful UV rays by using lip balms and lipsticks which contain SPF or other sunscreens, to make sure you keep your pink and healthy lips.
  • Use good quality cosmetics. A lot of lipsticks and other artificial cosmetics can cause harm to the lips because of the corrosive chemicals in them. Prolonged use of cosmetics on the lips, especially the cheap quality ones, can cause pigmentation. Remember to check the expiry date of the cosmetic, as using an expired product can cause allergies.
  • Maintain a healthy diet as it will help make your skin glow and make your lips look more healthy and natural. Eat plenty of fresh salads and fruits and stay away from oily and junk foods and avoid fizzy drinks. Have a diet rich in vitamins, as vitamins like Vitamin C naturally moisturise the lips.
  • Nervous habits, like biting your lips can cause damage to them, making them chapped, or worse, by making them bleed. Try to avoid biting your lips by wearing lipstick as a prevention, or maybe use lip balm that you don't like the flavour of.

Once the health and condition of your lips is in order, you may want to plump them up. At the Selston Cosmetic Clinic dermal filler treatment for lip enhancement is a quick and safe way to give you fuller lips with a natural freshness and can also minimise the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Once the dermal filler gets injected, you will see an instant result, with fuller, well-defined, contoured lips. The fillers used are hyaluronic acid based, which is a natural component of the skin, meaning the risk of adverse reactions to the procedure is very, very small.

Botox, Filler and Various Treatments for Facial Anti- Ageing - Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield & Chesterfield

When we are young, fat is evenly distributed in the face, with little pockets here and there that plump up the cheeks, forehead, temples and areas around the eyes and mouth. As we age, the face loses volume, so rounder features may sink, and skin that was smooth and tight, becomes looser and starts to sag.

There are many things that cause our skin to age. With the passing of time, we all get visible lines and wrinkles and it's natural for our face to lose some of its fullness. The skin on our face is thinner and more delicate than the rest of our body which is perhaps the reason that we can see the fine lines and wrinkles more easily.

Some things, like the natural ageing process we can't do anything about, but other things we can influence. Our environment and lifestyle choices are partly to blame for our skin ageing prematurely, but by taking some preventive actions, we can slow the effects that this type of ageing has on our skin.

Ageing is a fact of life and some of the things we notice about our skin includes:

Thinner skin - The rate of skin cell turnover reduces in ageing skin, which results in thinner crepe like skin.
Sagging - Less production of elastin and collagen means ageing skin is vulnerable to the effects of gravity.
Wrinkly skin - In time, ageing skin becomes thinner due to  reduction of elastin and collagen.
Age spots - Pigment cells in the skin increase in certain areas and cluster together, resulting in sun spots, freckles or liver spots.
Dryness - The ageing skin has fewer sweat glands and oil glands and is prone to dryness.
Facial thread veins - The blood vessels in ageing thin skin are more likely to break, bruise or become permanently dilated, resulting in broken veins.

Dermal Fillers for anti-ageing

The skin ageing process is accelerated by:

Sun damage
Protect your skin from the sun every day. Always apply sun cream, as UVA rays emitted by the sun breaks down collagen and elastin. They stimulate production of skin pigment cells which results in age spots.

Smoking
Smoking causes wrinkles and a dull complexion and repeated facial movements with smoking can cause mouth and lip wrinkles. Also, the supply of collagen breaks down, slowing the skin’s repair and renewal process, resulting in wrinkles, loss of elasticity and dryness.

Repetitive facial expressions
This leads to fine lines and wrinkles and as it ages, the skin loses elasticity and doesn’t spring back to its original state. The position we sleep also has a similar effect, with the skin pressed up against the pillow for so many hours. Sleeping on your back can minimise the chances of these type of wrinkles from occurring.

Alcohol
It dehydrates the skin, and in time, this can make us look older. Consumption of alcohol causes dilation of the blood vessels in the skin, and this can contribute to a broken veins and a blotchy, uneven look, which may become permanent with excessive drinking.

Lack of sleep
Sleep deprivation will cause puffiness in the face, dark circles and bagginess under the eyes, and a sagging skin. Too little sleep will leave you with a sallow, tired complexion.

Stress
Stress and worry cause frowning, and over time the muscles in the face actually conform to that movement and frown lines and deep furrows will appear.
